Welcome to my profile! My name is Nicodemus and I’m excited to join VSO’s first ever Digital Ambassador Programme. In this role, I’ll be looking at ways I can use my skills in communications to raise awareness on the causes I care about most – and working alongside the other Ambassadors across the world to talk about the importance of youth advocacy and the climate crisis.
About me
Alongside volunteering with VSO Kenya as a Communications Advisor, I am currently pursuing a Masters in Development Communication at Daystar University in Kenya. From studying and my volunteering experience with VSO, it has not only allowed me to combine both of my passions, but also to champion change and promote a fairer world for everyone.
When it comes to specific causes that I am passionate about, the climate crisis ranks at the top of my list. Knowledge sharing is incredibly important in this space, and it’s the only way that we will overcome the challenges we face as a global community. From climate justice to mitigation and community-led climate action, there is so much work that we can be doing as a collective. As part of my role as an Ambassador, I want to make sure that the most marginalised communities affected by climate change are at the forefront of climate storytelling. Their voices matter most!
Over the next six months, I aim to leverage my vast experience to amplify the voices of the underrepresented and ensure their stories resonate on global platforms. This is a great opportunity to truly highlight the amazing work of volunteers and the communities we work with. I hope that you join me on this journey
I use social media to share information about sustainable living practices and the importance of reducing our carbon footprint.
I spoke at workshops on “World Thinking Day 2024” on recycling, energy conservation, and climate change, and implemented a project with 225 young girls named “For Her Safe World” with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). We spoke to the girls on the importance of education, why child marriage should be banished and how to stand up for themselves in the face of sexual or domestic violence.
I will make a good digital ambassador for VSO due to a combination of my passion for social causes, digital expertise, and commitment to impactful storytelling. My values and desire to change the world for the better are in line with becoming a part of an organisation like VSO, and being a part of a group of people committed to bringing about long-lasting, sustainable change is satisfying.
Ask a question
If you’d like to learn more about the work that I’m getting up to here in Kenya, don’t hesitate to ask me a question. My interests are around climate action and how we can use communication tools effectively for activism.
The ACTIVE programme
The UK government funded ACTIVE programme supports the development of active citizenship across the Global South, so the world’s most marginalised people can lead their own development, claim their rights to better public services, and hold people in power to account.
