Assalamu Alaikum! My name is Lamia and I’m from Bangladesh. I’m very excited to become a VSO digital ambassador! I get to tell the stories of my community and raise awareness of their struggles and achievements.
About me
I'm passionate about environmental sustainability, advocacy, and education: I participate in the Bangladesh Girl Guides Association's environmental groups and campaigns, such as community clean-ups and tree-planting activities.
I use social media to share information about sustainable living practices and the importance of reducing our carbon footprint.
I spoke at workshops on “World Thinking Day 2024” on recycling, energy conservation, and climate change, and implemented a project with 225 young girls named “For Her Safe World” with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). We spoke to the girls on the importance of education, why child marriage should be banished and how to stand up for themselves in the face of sexual or domestic violence.
I will make a good digital ambassador for VSO due to a combination of my passion for social causes, digital expertise, and commitment to impactful storytelling. My values and desire to change the world for the better are in line with becoming a part of an organisation like VSO, and being a part of a group of people committed to bringing about long-lasting, sustainable change is satisfying.
Ask a question
I’d love to connect with you and answer any questions you might have about my work – and what I plan on getting up to as a Digital Ambassador. My passions are around environmental sustainability, girls and womens’ rights and education.
The ACTIVE programme
The UK government funded ACTIVE programme supports the development of active citizenship across the Global South, so the world’s most marginalised people can lead their own development, claim their rights to better public services, and hold people in power to account.
