International Volunteer Day around the world

Tanzania

On Monday 5 December We are commemorating the International Volunteer Day (IVD) with United Nations Volunteers Tanzania in Mwanza.  Highlights of the International Volunteer Day (IVD) activities include a solidarity Walk with Volunteer Involving Organizations (VIOs) from across the country, keynote speeches and remarks from guest of honour, Representatives of the UN Agencies and country directors from across the VIOs. On Tuesday 6 December we will conduct a volunteer reflection session discussing empowerment and the global volunteering standards.  

Kenya 

On Friday 2 December, we will have a one-day conference on Global Standards targeting civil society organisations (CSOs) and Government agencies that work with volunteers. The objective is to create awareness as well as uptake of the global volunteering standards with local CSOs and government.  On Monday 5 December, VSO will lead and join other VIO society members and Government in Kenya to commemorate the IVD. There will be a Volunteer of the Year Award gala event. Within the first week of December, we will also host three local radio shows on volunteerism and the global standards. 

Rwanda

On Friday 2 December we’ll be discussing the development contribution of volunteers and building the culture of resilience, live on RTV and Radio Rwanda synchronising with five community radios. We’ll also be discussing mobilising youth in order to combat the use of drink and drugs with young populations. 

Mozambique 

The plans for IVD in Mozambique are include the National Volunteer Conference in Pemba City, where we’ll be sharing the Global Volunteer Standards. We’ll also be giving a lecture on volunteering in Maputo City and running a set of agroecology workshop with the community and smallholders farmers in Manica province. 

Nepal 

In Nepal we’ll be conducting discussions around the culture of volunteerism in the context of our ACTIVE programme. The event will be held on 5 December 2022 and will be coordinated by our project implementation partner, Youth Advocacy Nepal (YAN). 

Global 

The Volunteer Impact Awards celebrates the exceptional contribution of VSO volunteers from around the world in creating lasting change in some of the world’s poorest communities. Our fantastic finalists are nominated under the categories of health, education, livelihoods, and impact beyond volunteering, for their brilliant contributions to creating sustainable development. Join us on Thursday 8 December 2022, 9:30am (GMT) where we'll announce our winners.
